Tam Giang River Festival
The 4th Tam Giang River Festival took place within two days, February 11-12 (the 5th and 6th days of lunar January) in Song Cau district, northern province of Phu Yen to wish for a successful fishing season.
The event is a chance for fishermen, especially the young to meet, exchange and show off their intelligence and talents.
This year 325 young people of 13 groups from 11 communes and towns in Phu Yen province participated in the festival. They competed in ten games, such as fishing, tug of war, rowing, duck catching and others.
At 8pm of February 11, 1,000 lanterns were released on Tam Giang River, opening the 4th Tam Giang River Festival 2008. On the same night, artists from the Thanh Binh Tuong (classical drama) Club from Song Cau district performed an extract from a famous ancient tuong drama entitled “Five peach petals”.
