Pham Duy and “day of return” to Hanoi
Musician Pham Duy, at the age of over 90, will meet Hanoians at the Hanoi Opera House on March 27.
Twenty songs by Pham Duy will be performed, including Poor Countryside, Afternoon Terrace-field, The Mother in Gio Linh, Pink Grass, Love Song, and Hoang Thi in the old days.
Besides famous singers in Vietnam, namely My Linh, Quang Linh, Duc Tuan, Nguyen Thao and Khanh Linh, overseas Vietnamese singer Duy Quang, Pham Duy’s son, will join the concert.
With more than 1,000 songs, many of them never published or allowed to be sung in Vietnam, Pham Duy’s contribution to and passion for music is proven.
The show organising board hopes that the concert will outline the career of musician Pham Duy. The musical story will be supported by the musician’s presence in the role of a host.
Director Pham Hoang Nam said this concert doesn’t need sponsors or a fabulous stage because the name of Pham Duy is enough to attract people.
Pham Duy, along with Van Cao and Trinh Cong Son, is widely considered one of the three most salient figures of modern (non-classical) Vietnamese music. Pham Duy's musical career spans fifty years. He has written over one thousand songs which he divides into different periods: Folk, Heart, Spiritual, Profane and Children's Songs.
