Taste of the World to open this weekend

A yearly food festival named Taste of the World is scheduled to take place in the Van Thanh Tourist Park in HCMC from this Friday to Sunday.

The festival, organized by the city’s department of culture, sport and tourism, will be opened from 3 p.m to 10 p.m. every day.

Twenty hotels and restaurants in the city will present their signature dishes as they promote Vietnamese and foreign cuisines there. Other programs including seminars about Vietnamese food culture and nutrition, folk games and performances by bartenders will also take place during the festival.

A contest named Vietnam Outdoor Culinary Challenge 2008, organized by the Saigon Professional Chefs Guild will offer young chefs in HCMC a chance to display their skills and talents.

La Quoc Khanh, deputy head of the department, said that the most special feature of this year’s festival is the participation of the World Food Culture Center of South Korea. Korean artists and chefs will promote South Korean gastronomy, art and music, will hold a seminar Modern and Traditional Korean-Vietnam Cuisines, and will introduce royal dishes promoted in the well-know TV film Dea Jang Gum.

The organizing committee expects around 1,500 guests to attend the festival.
